Accountant General’s Department of Malaysia (AGD) was established in 1946 with the establishment of the Accountant general’s position under the Ministry of Finance before Malaysia achieved its independence. AGD started with an office in the building of Life Insurance Corporation of India at the junction of Jalan Melaka and Jalan Tun Perak (previously Mountbatten Road) in the centre of Kuala Lumpur. The AGD’s Office was relocated to Sultan Abdul Samad Building and later to Block 8, government offices Complex in Jalan Duta. Now AGD is located at Ministry of Finance Complex, Precint 2, Putrajaya.

Over the past few decades, the role and functions of the AGD have undergone several changes in line with the development of the public sector.

The divisions in the AGD consist of:

  1. Accounting Development and Management Division (BPPP)
  2. Central Operation and Agency Services Division (BPOPA)
  3. Unclaimed Money Management Division (BWTD)
  4. Accrual Accounting Implementation Division (PPPA)
  5. Management of Accounting Office Division (BPOPP)
  6. Information Technology Management Division (BPTM)
  7. Advisory and Consultancy Division (BKP)
  8. Internal Audit Management Division (BPAD)
  9. Account Division for Ministry of Finance (BA MOF)
  10. National Accounting Institute (IPN)

In line with the AGD's objective of prioritizing efficient and effective service delivery to customers, AGD has now expanded to 24 offices of State/Branch throughout Malaysia to serve the best accounting services to the public.

Leader of AGD

The first position of Accountant General was held by G.G.T Browne in 1946. To date, the AGD has been led by a total of 17 Accountants General. In 1967, the leadership of the AGD was taken over by a local.
